Morning or Afternoon Arrival in Merzouga

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome in Merzouga. You will arrive in the village. Your guide will meet you at the designated meeting point or at your accommodation if you are already staying in Merzouga.

After a brief orientation, you will prepare for your desert journey. You will have the opportunity to leave your main luggage in secure storage. Only a small overnight bag will go with you on the camel.

Late Afternoon – First Camel Ride into the Dunes

You will embark on an exciting camel ride through the majestic dunes. Each person receives their own camel. Your experienced camel guide will lead the way.

As you ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, the village disappears behind the first line of golden sand. The landscape becomes more dramatic with every step. The camels move at a calm, steady pace, their large feet sinking softly into the sand.

Sunset on the First Evening

The timing of your ride is planned so that you arrive at a high dune just as the sun begins to set. The sunset in the desert is simply magical. The sky transforms from blue to orange to deep purple. The dunes change color by the minute.

After watching the sunset, you will continue to the Berber camp.

First Night in the Desert

You will spend the first night in a traditional Berber camp in the heart of the desert. You will be welcomed with mint tea.

You will enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by your hosts. Traditional dishes include soup, tagine, couscous, and fresh bread.

After dinner, your hosts will play live Berber music around the campfire. The rhythmic drumming and singing create a magical atmosphere under the starry sky.

Early Morning – First Sunrise

Wake up early on your second day to see the sunrise over the dunes. This is your first desert sunrise, and it is spectacular. The first light touches the highest dunes, then slowly spreads across the sand.

After watching the sunrise, you will return to the camp for breakfast.

Morning – Full Day of Desert Exploration

The second day allows you to explore even more of the desert. This is the main difference between a one night and a two night experience. You are not rushed. You have a full day ahead of you.

After breakfast, you will mount your camels again for a longer trek deeper into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Your guide will take you to areas that most tourists never see. You will:

• Climb the highest dunes for panoramic views
• Visit remote valleys between the great dunes
• See the desert landscape change as the morning light shifts
• Learn about the flora and fauna that survive in this harsh environment

Midday – Berber Lunch in the Desert

You will stop for lunch in a sheltered spot among the dunes. Your guide will prepare or arrange a delicious Berber lunch. This is a special experience – eating traditional food while surrounded by nothing but sand and sky.

Lunch typically includes:

• Fresh bread
• Salads and dips
• Tagine or other traditional dish
• Fresh fruit
• Mint tea

Afternoon – More Exploration or Rest

After lunch, you have choices. You can:

• Continue exploring more remote dunes on camel
• Climb a high dune for the afternoon views
• Rest in the shade of a dune and read or nap
• Practice sandboarding down a steep dune (if available)
• Simply sit and absorb the silence of the desert

Late Afternoon – Return to Camp and Second Sunset

You will return to the camp in the late afternoon. You will have time to relax, wash up, and prepare for the evening.

Then, you will climb a dune near the camp to watch your second sunset in the desert. Each sunset is different. The colors vary based on clouds, dust, and the time of year.

Second Night in the Desert

You will enjoy another delicious dinner at the camp. The menu will be different from the first night, offering variety.

After dinner, you will have another evening of Berber music around the campfire. You may find yourself joining in the dancing or simply listening while looking up at the stars.

The night sky in the Sahara is unforgettable. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, shooting stars, and even satellites passing overhead.

Early Morning – Second Sunrise

On your third day, you will wake up early once more to see the sunrise in the desert. This second sunrise is a truly unique experience. You will feel at peace, as if the desert has become your home.

After watching the sunrise, you will return to the camp for your final breakfast in the desert.

Morning – Return to Merzouga by Camel

After breakfast, you will pack your small bag and prepare for the return journey. You will ride your camel back to Merzouga village. The morning trek takes approximately one to one and a half hours.

The morning light is beautiful, and the air is still cool. This is a peaceful time to ride.

Late Morning – End of Adventure

You will arrive back in Merzouga in the late morning. Your driver or guide will meet you. Your unforgettable two night desert adventure concludes here.
