Morning – Departure from Marrakech
The 5 day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins with excitement in the air as we prepare to leave the vibrant city of Marrakech. We will pick you up from your accommodation and head south across the stunning High Atlas mountains.
During the journey, you will have the opportunity to admire the majestic mountains, covered in snow during winter, and enjoy the freshness of the mountain air.
Tizi n'Tichka Pass
Our first major stop will be at the Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass, which sits at an altitude of over 2,260 meters. Here, you will feel like you are on top of the world as you admire the panoramic views. The winding road offers spectacular photo opportunities.
Afternoon – Descent to Ouarzazate
We will then continue our journey, descending toward the Ouarzazate valley, known as the Door of the Desert. The landscape changes from green mountain slopes to rocky, arid terrain.
Evening – Overnight in Ouarzazate Region
We will spend the night in a charming riad or hotel in the Ouarzazate region, where you can relax and enjoy Moroccan hospitality. Enjoy dinner and rest after your first day of travel.
Morning – Visit to Aït Ben Haddou
The second day of the tour will take you to one of the most iconic places in Morocco: Aït Ben Haddou. This fortified mud brick village, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, will transport you to a world of fairy tales and adventure.
Aït Ben Haddou has served as a backdrop for numerous famous films, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. The narrow mud brick streets and ancient kasbahs will make you feel like you are inside an epic movie.
You will have time to:
- Explore the narrow alleyways of the ksar
- Climb to the top for panoramic views of the river valley
- Visit ancient kasbahs and learn about their history
- Take spectacular photographs of the red mud brick architecture
Afternoon – Draa Valley
After exploring Aït Ben Haddou, we will continue our journey toward the Draa Valley, famous for its endless palm groves and kasbahs. The valley is an oasis of greenery in the middle of the desert and offers stunning views.
The Draa Valley is the largest palm oasis in Morocco, stretching for over 100 kilometers along the Draa River. You will see thousands of palm trees, small Berber villages, and ancient kasbahs along the route.
We will make several stops for photographs and to appreciate the beauty of the valley.
Evening – Overnight in the Draa Valley
We will spend the night in a riad or hotel in the Draa Valley, where you can enjoy authentic Moroccan cuisine and relax in a peaceful environment.
Morning – Journey to Merzouga
After breakfast, we continue our journey toward Merzouga, the gateway to the majestic Sahara Desert. The landscape becomes increasingly arid as we approach the dunes.
The drive takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, passing through rocky plains and small desert towns.
Late Afternoon – Arrival in Merzouga
We arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon. Before heading to the camp, you will have time to prepare for your camel trek.
Camel Ride at Sunset
Riding a camel through the golden dunes of the Sahara at sunset is an unparalleled experience. You will feel like a true desert explorer as you watch the sun set over the horizon.
Each person receives their own camel. Your experienced guide will lead you across the soft sand, timing the trek to arrive at a high dune just as the sun begins to set.
The sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes is magical. The sky transforms from blue to orange to deep purple. The dunes change color by the minute.
Evening – Desert Camp
You will arrive at the desert camp, where you will be welcomed with Moroccan hospitality and mint tea. The camp consists of comfortable tents with mattresses, blankets, and pillows. Shared bathroom facilities are available.
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. The night in the desert is magical; you can enjoy traditional Berber music around a campfire under a starry sky that seems infinite.
Early Morning – Sunrise in the Desert
Wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the golden dunes. The first light touches the highest dunes, then slowly spreads across the sand. This is a breathtaking moment you will never forget.
After sunrise, you will return to the camp for breakfast.
The fourth day is reserved for exploring the Sahara Desert in all its glory. You have several exciting options to choose from.
Option 1: Sandboarding on the Dunes
If you are looking for excitement, sandboarding on the dunes is a must do activity. Slide down the soft sandy slopes and experience the adrenaline as you descend. Sandboards are available at the camp, and your guide will help you get started.
Option 2: Visits to Local Villages
If you prefer to immerse yourself in local culture, you can opt to visit nearby Berber villages. Here, you can meet local people, learn about their traditions, and experience their hospitality.
You may visit:
- Khamlia village to hear traditional Gnawa music
- Nomadic families living in traditional tents
- A Berber family in their home for mint tea
Option 3: Quad Biking or 4x4 Excursion

Second Night in the Desert Camp
The night in the camp will be another special experience. Enjoy dinner under the stars and share stories around the campfire before retiring to your tent for a peaceful night in the middle of the Sahara.
Early Morning – Sunrise over the Sahara
The fifth and final day of the tour marks the return to Marrakech. But before departing, you will have the opportunity to experience a magical moment: the sunrise over the Sahara dunes.
Watch as the sky lights up with golden and pink tones while the sun slowly appears over the dunes. It is a stunning spectacle that will leave you breathless.
After sunrise, you will enjoy breakfast at the camp. Then you will ride your camel back to Merzouga village (or take a 4x4 transfer if you prefer).
Morning – Departure to Marrakech
After leaving the desert behind, we will begin the journey back to Marrakech. The drive takes approximately 8 to 9 hours, passing through equally impressive landscapes.
Along the way, you will have the opportunity to:
- Stop for lunch at a local restaurant
- Purchase souvenirs in local markets
- Enjoy the beauty of the High Atlas mountains
- Make rest stops for photographs
Evening – Arrival in Marrakech
We will arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation.
