4 Day Journey from Marrakech to Fes

Morning – Arrival and Welcome

On your first day, you will begin in Marrakech, a city full of life and color. We will pick you up from your accommodation in the morning.

Exploration of Marrakech

Before departing for the desert, you can begin exploring Marrakech. Your guide can take you to:

• The famous Jemaa el-Fna square, the heart of Marrakech's nightlife
• The vibrant souks filled with treasures including spices, carpets, lanterns, and leather goods
• The Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech

You can try delicious street food and immerse yourself in the local culture. Your guide will recommend the best places to eat and shop.

Please note that if you prefer to depart directly from Marrakech on Day 1, we can also begin the journey immediately. The itinerary can be adjusted based on your preferences.

Afternoon – Departure to the Desert

In the afternoon, we depart from Marrakech and drive toward the High Atlas mountains. We cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 meters, making several stops for panoramic views.

Evening – Arrival at a Valley Hotel

We arrive at a hotel in the Dades Valley or Ouarzazate region in the evening. You will enjoy dinner and spend the night in comfortable accommodation.

Morning – Dades Valley

After breakfast, you will explore the Dades Valley, known for its stunning rock formations and winding river. The valley is often called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.

We drive along the winding road, stopping at the famous monkey fingers rock formation and other viewpoints.

Midday – Todra Gorges

From the Dades Valley, we drive to the Todra Gorges. Here, you can explore the beautiful mountain landscapes. The Todra Gorges are a stunning canyon of red rock, carved by the Todra River over thousands of years. The canyon walls rise up to 300 meters high.

You will have time to:

• Walk along the riverbed between the towering cliffs
• Take spectacular photographs
• Watch rock climbers scaling the vertical walls
• Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the gorges

Afternoon – Journey to Merzouga Desert

After exploring the gorges, we continue toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. The landscape transforms from rocky plains to the first hints of golden sand.

Late Afternoon – Camel Ride into the Dunes

Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will change from your vehicle to a camel for a trek into the dunes of the Sahara. Each person receives their own camel. Your experienced guide will lead you across the golden sands.

The camel trek is timed to arrive at a high dune just as the sun begins to set. Enjoy a magical sunset over the dunes as the sky transforms into shades of orange, purple, and gold.

Evening – Desert Camp

In the late afternoon, you will arrive at the desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner under the stars. Listen to Berber music around a campfire and experience true Saharan hospitality.

The camp consists of comfortable tents with mattresses, blankets, and pillows. Shared bathroom facilities are available.

Early Morning – Sunrise in the Desert

Wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the golden dunes. This is one of the most beautiful moments of the entire journey. The first light touches the highest dunes, then slowly spreads across the sand.

After sunrise, you will return to the camp for breakfast.

Morning – Optional Camel Ride or 4x4 Exploration

After breakfast, you have choices for how to spend your morning:

• Another camel ride into different areas of the dunes
• A 4x4 excursion to explore remote desert locations
• Relaxing at the camp and enjoying the silence

Visit to Khamlia Village (Gnawa Music)

We will visit Khamlia village, a small settlement of Gnawa people, descendants of slaves from West Africa. You will hear traditional Gnawa music, which combines African rhythms with spiritual chanting. The musicians will welcome you with a private performance.

You can also purchase CDs or crafts directly from the villagers.

Visit to Nomadic Families

We will also visit local nomadic families living in traditional tents. You will learn about their way of life, share mint tea, and hear their stories. This is a genuine cultural exchange, not a tourist performance.

Afternoon – Relaxation or Optional Activities

In the afternoon, you have free time to choose optional activities such as:

• Quad biking on the sand dunes
• Sandboarding down the high dunes
• Simply relaxing at the camp

Late Afternoon – Departure to Fes

In the late afternoon, we depart from Merzouga and begin the journey toward Fes. We drive through the Ziz Valley, a dramatic oasis of thousands of palm trees.

Evening – Overnight in Midelt or Erfoud Region

We stop for the night in a hotel in the Midelt or Erfoud region. You will enjoy dinner and rest before continuing to Fes tomorrow.

Morning – Departure to Fes

After breakfast, we continue the journey toward Fes, the jewel of northern Morocco.

We cross the Middle Atlas mountains, passing through:

• The Cedar Forest, home to wild Barbary macaques
• Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco
• Scenic mountain villages and valleys

We make several stops for photographs and to observe the monkeys.

Afternoon – Arrival in Fes

On the fourth day, you will arrive in Fes. This imperial city will captivate you with its historic architecture and bustling markets.

Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation in Fes.

Your 4 day journey from Marrakech to Fes concludes here. You can spend the rest of your day exploring Fes or simply relaxing after your desert adventure.
