Morning – Departure from Marrakech
Your excursion begins in the morning from Marrakech. We will pick you up from your accommodation or an agreed meeting point. From there, we drive south toward the Ourika Valley.
The drive takes approximately one hour. As we leave the red city behind, the landscape transforms. The flat plains give way to rolling hills, then to the green slopes of the High Atlas mountains.
Arrival at Ourika Valley
Upon arrival at the Ourika Valley, you will begin to explore this beautiful natural environment. The valley follows the Ourika river, which flows down from the high peaks of the Atlas. The river creates a green corridor of palm trees, walnut trees, and cultivated terraces.
You will visit local Berber villages scattered along the valley slopes. These traditional mountain settlements have changed little for centuries. You will have the opportunity to learn about the daily life of the local community.
Nature Walk to the Waterfall
A highlight of the day is a pleasant nature walk to an impressive waterfall. The trail follows the river uphill through shady groves of trees. Local Berber families have built small cafes and rest stops along the path where you can pause for mint tea.
The walk is moderate and suitable for most fitness levels. You will cross the river several times using small stepping stones. The reward at the end is the sight of cool water cascading down a rocky cliff into a clear pool below.
Please note that the water level varies by season. In late summer, the waterfall may be modest, but the journey and the mountain scenery remain spectacular.
Midday – Berber Lunch
During your visit to the Ourika Valley, you will have the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Berber lunch. Local restaurants and family-run guesthouses serve traditional dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and unique flavors.
Typical lunch options include:
- Berber tagine with chicken or vegetables
- Kefta tagine with meatballs and eggs
- Couscous with seven vegetables (traditional on Fridays)
- Grilled meats from the mountains
- Fresh mint tea to finish
Vegetarian options are available. Local honey, argan oil, and freshly baked bread are often served alongside your meal.
Afternoon – Free Time and Relaxation
After lunch, you will have free time to relax by the river, explore a local souk (market) if one is open, or simply enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. Many travelers choose to dip their feet in the cool river water or browse local handicrafts made by Berber women's cooperatives.
Late Afternoon – Return to Marrakech
After a full day of exploration and delicious Berber food, we begin our return journey to Marrakech. You will arrive back in the city in the late afternoon. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation or the agreed meeting point.
