3 Days to Merzouga Desert from Marrakech

Morning – Departure & High Atlas Mountains

Your journey begins early in the morning with a pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. As we leave the city behind, the landscape transforms dramatically. We climb into the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 meters. You will witness breathtaking panoramic views, winding roads, and traditional Berber villages clinging to mountainsides.

Midday – Aït Ben Haddou: UNESCO World Heritage Treasure

Our first major stop is Aït Ben Haddou, a stunning fortified village made of red adobe clay. This ancient ksar is one of Morocco's most photographed sites and a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. You will have time to explore its labyrinthine alleyways, visit ancient kasbahs, climb to the top for spectacular views, and learn about its fascinating history.

This village has served as a backdrop for many famous films, including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Mummy.

Afternoon – Ouarzazate

We continue our journey to Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa. This desert city is known for its film studios and beautiful kasbahs. You will have free time to explore or simply relax.

Evening – Overnight in Ouarzazate

We spend the night in comfortable accommodation in Ouarzazate. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner and rest well, preparing for the desert adventures that await you tomorrow.

Morning – Road to the Sahara

After breakfast, we depart early toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. The landscape transforms as we drive east, passing through the Dades Valley, dramatic gorges, and rocky plateaus. As we approach Merzouga, the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes rise before you, creating an unforgettable landscape of golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see.

Late Afternoon – Camel Trek at Sunset

In the late afternoon, you will experience the highlight of your journey. You will meet your camel guide and mount your camel for an exciting trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Each person receives their own camel.

As you sway gently across the golden sand, you will experience the peace and serenity of the desert. The sun sets over the horizon, painting the dunes in shades of orange, purple, and gold – a spectacular display of colors you will never forget.

Evening – Luxury Desert Camp

We spend the night in a luxury Berber camp nestled between the towering dunes. Here, you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan hospitality. Your camp includes comfortable private tents with real beds, warm blankets, and shared bathroom facilities.

You will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars. After dinner, your hosts will play live Berber music around the campfire. The sound of the wind in the dunes will accompany you as you relax in your comfortable nomadic tent. Look up – the desert sky offers the clearest stargazing you have ever seen.

Morning – Sunrise in the Desert

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the golden dunes. This is one of the most magical moments of the entire journey. As the first light touches the sand, the desert transforms into a sea of amber and gold. After watching the sunrise, you will enjoy a typical Berber breakfast at the camp.

You then ride your camel back to the village of Merzouga (approximately one hour) or, if you prefer, you can take a 4x4 transfer. The choice is yours.

Midday – The Journey Back

After leaving the desert behind, we begin our return journey to Marrakech. We retrace our path through the dramatic landscapes of the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas mountains. We make several stops for panoramic views, photos, and lunch breaks.

Evening – Arrival in Marrakech

We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation. As you leave the desert behind, you carry with you unforgettable memories of this epic Sahara adventure.
